In Dallas, Texas – World Vision, a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to helping children, families, and their communities worldwide reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice, will host its first State Youth Advocacy Summit for North Texas on Aug. 4 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Dallas Baptist University’s Pilgrim Chapel, 3000 Mountain Creek Pkwy., in Dallas. Youth in grades seven through 12 will take part in interactive advocacy workshops. Guest speakers and panelists include Lori Dixon of ABT in Action, Dr. Kristen Guillory of the University of North Texas at Dallas, and Mirna Gonzalez, associate vice president for budget and public policy at the University of Texas at Arlington. An outdoor rally featuring an NBA sports celebrity and music played by a DJ and sports activities led by the Dallas Baptist University Rec Team are planned. In Port Arthur, Texas – United Methodist Church, 821 Freeman Ave., has a weekend events planned. It will host “Girls Night Out: Wild about Sisterhood” from 6 to 10 p.m. at the church. The event gives ladies giving of the church and community opportunity to fellowship in Christian sisterhood through games, entertainment, and discipleship.
