In Port Arthur – St. Paul United Methodist Church, 821 Freeman Ave., will celebrate its 97th anniversary with a fashion show and Christian play from 1 to 4 p.m. on Nov. 3 at S&G Auditorium, 900 5th St. Admission is $10. The celebration will come to a close on Nov. 11 with a special morning and evening worship services. Morning worship is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Rev. In Dallas – Friendship-West Baptist Church, 2020 W. Wheatland Road, plays host to The Bishop 5+1 Reunion, which continues through Nov. 9. In Port Arthur – Broken Box Ministries, founded by Port Arthur native and national gospel promoter Minister Jon E. Bush, will host the second annual Night of Thanksgiving Praise event at 6 p.m. on Nov. 10 at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 2920 Sam St. The crowd will once again be entertained and uplifted by music from Port Arthur native and Houston resident Tammie Davis and national Christian recording artist, Naima.  Christian rapper John Guillory, soloist Mary Motley, and the Eastern Star Praise Team will join the lineup. Minister John Bernard and Bishop Ambrose Nwasi will also be on hand to encourage the crowd in thanksgiving and praise! Troy Hopkins is the pastor of New Jerusalem. In Dallas, Texas – World Vision, a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to helping children, families, and their communities worldwide reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice, will host its first State Youth Advocacy Summit for North Texas on Aug. 4 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Dallas Baptist University’s Pilgrim Chapel, 3000 Mountain Creek Pkwy., in Dallas.  Youth in grades seven through 12 will take part in interactive advocacy workshops. Guest speakers and panelists include Lori Dixon of ABT in Action, Dr. Kristen Guillory of the University of North Texas at Dallas, and Mirna Gonzalez, associate vice president for budget and public policy at the University of Texas at Arlington. An outdoor rally featuring an NBA sports celebrity and music played by a DJ and sports activities led by the Dallas Baptist University Rec Team are planned. In Port Arthur, Texas – United Methodist Church, 821 Freeman Ave., has a weekend events planned. It will host “Girls Night Out: Wild about Sisterhood” from 6 to 10 p.m.  at the church. The event gives ladies giving of the church and community opportunity to fellowship in Christian sisterhood through games, entertainment, and discipleship.  Regardless of your faith, it’s fun for all women of all ages. In Lewisville, Texas: Youth Enjoying Salvation (Y.E.S.) Ministries of Denton will host is first Born 2 Be Free conference and concert on Saturday, July 14 beginning at 9 a.m. at Macedonia Ministries, 702 S. Mill St. in Lewisville. Youth and young adults, ages 13-29, are invited to attend. Event is free and meals provided, but pre-registration is required. Day sessions and workshops include music, praise dance/step, spoken work/rap and sign language. The concert begins at 6 p.m. at the Medical Center Lewisville Grand Theatre. The event will feature the Born2BFree Conference choir and dance, mime, and step teams, and Christian and gospel artists.

In Fort Worth, Texas: The Fort Worth Christian Women’s Connection will hold a “Young at Heart” luncheon honoring mothers, daughters, and granddaughters from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 18 at Mira Vista Country Club, 6600 Mira Vista Blvd., in Fort Worth. Guest entertainment is Jana Fick and Girls N Grace Dolls. Cost is $17 for adults and $9 for children ages 5 to 12. Free childcare will be provided by Christ Church, 5301 Alta Mesa, in Fort Worth. Join them for a week long summer adventure for ages 1 to 100 as they “Go Fishin’ Deep for God’s Word Finding Heavenly Treasures,” through this opportunity for fellowship, discipleship and praise. In Dublin, Ohio: Texas Wesleyan University’s Nathan Anderson has received the 2012 Jack Nicklaus Award as the Golf Coaches Association of America’s NAIA Men’s Golf Player of the Year.  Anderson received the award from Nicklaus at the Memorial on Sunday.

The Nicklaus Award recognizes the top players at the NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, and NJCAA levels.  Since 1988, the award for the GCAA Collegiate Players of the Year has been named after Jack Nicklaus, a Big Ten and NCAA Champion at The Ohio State University. Nicklaus annually recognizes the recipients during the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance at Muirfield Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, just outside of his hometown of Columbus.

Anderson, a junior out of Burleson, Texas, impressed in his first season with the Rams after spending two PING All-American seasons at McClennan College.  He was a 1st-team NAIA All-American selection after finishing as the individual runner-up, one shot off the lead, at the 61st annual NAIA National Championship.  Anderson also finished tied for first at the Dallas Baptist Patriot Invitational before falling in a playoff this season.  In total, he notched four top-five and five top-10 finishes in nine events, while setting a Texas Wesleyan record for single-season scoring average at 72.08.

In Abilene, Texas: Citing personal and family reasons, Hardin-Simmons softball coach Dan Sheppard has resigned his position effective June 15.

“This was not an easy decision,” said Sheppard. “I have thought about this for a while and believe there is a need for me to give more attention to my family. I had to consider if I could continue to give HSU all the job deserves and still fulfill family commitments. I appreciate HSU giving me this opportunity.”

Sheppard spent two seasons as the Cowgirls’ head man and had a record of 47-36. His teams finished second in the American Southwest Conference West Division in both seasons.

A full search for his replacement will begin immediately.

In Euless, Texas: CareerSolutions will sponsor a free seminar by Terry Sullivan, social media maven, LinkedIn coach, and marketing executive, on “Optimizing Your LinkedIn Profile” on Wednesday, May 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church Euless, 1000 W.
